Fishing The Conowingo Pond with Dell Jackson 09/17/14

Hello Folks,

Dell Jackson and I finally got to fish together on the river this year. Although it was a short trip, I was glad we finally got out. Dell worked at the Manor Middle School (Penn Manor SD) until 3:00 p.m. so we didn't get to the river until around 4:00 p.m. We were able to fish upriver until about 6:00 p.m. and only caught two smallmouth. Dell grabbed one on a small swimbait and had several other hits and misses. I had the second one on a spinnerbait as the sun was dropping behind the river hills.

Two smallies are better than no smallies!  ;)

There was a lot of excavation work going on down at the PFBC ramp at Muddy Creek. We were wondering if it was related to the gas/oil pipe line that is being proposed for Lancaster County since it was running right along side the power line clearing (?). Although nothing has been settled on the pipe line in Lancaster County, it wouldn't surprise us that they weren't already preparing.

There were quite a few canoes and kayak anglers on the upper pond where we were fishing. This area always reminds me of a moonscape. There are a lot of rocky islands and rounded boulders just below the Norman Wood Bridge.

We choose to fish The Pond because Lake Aldred was schedule to be only at 163' deep which is really low. In fact, the overflow at the flashboards for the Holtwood Dam is 169.75' There was absolutely no water flowing over the Holtwood Dam last night and the only water coming into the Conowingo Pond was through the Holtwood Power Plant.

Thanks to Dell for coming along and keeping me company last night. We should have brought some worms to go catfishing with... That would have given us a bit more action than the smallmouth fishing last evening. :)

Take Care and Be Safe,
Dad
