Jeff and Penny's Sunday Trip On The Susquehanna River (10/10/11)

Hello Folks,

I have a bunch of pics to share with you that Jeff (CHRGD) and Penny took while on the river this past weekend. They hit a familiar spot on Sunday, but failed to find the same success that they did on Saturday.

During this time of year, we can have weather changes happen very quickly. These weather changes effect the behavioral patterns of smallmouth bass. Chances are that the fish were still in the same general area as they were Saturday, but they may have moved a short distance away making us wonder where they may have gone. If there's a viable food source available on Saturday, that same food source was no doubt still be present on Sunday. Now, the major task presented to us is to locate them and replay the success we had the day before.

I also had a text message from Petey who had great success on Saturday (21" smallmouth and a few 19" hawgs)and was able to relocate those same schooling bass once again on Sunday.

The bait fish and crayfish have particular seasonal patterns and the smallies will follow these food sources during their seasonal pattern changes. For example, the blue back herring will migrate downriver during this time of the year. We find great success in catching bass using lures that represent this bait fish duing the Fall. Petey was able to figure out the seasonal pattern of a particular food source and have yet another outstanding weekend of fishing.

If you look back to last year's blog entries for this time of the year, you will see that we were on the same river location at this prime fishing time and had a couple of fantastic fishing days.

It's good to record these seasonal patterns and repeat them each year.

Here are the pics that Jeff and Penny sent me from this past weekend:

Some of these smallies were "Chunks!" It' amazing how much food they take in as they prepare for the cold winter months ahead.

A big thanks to Jeff and Penny for sharing their pics with us.

Take Care and Be Safe!!
