The Bass University - Pete Gluszek and Mike "Ike" (12/09/11)

Hello Folks,

Years back, I used to attend some of the best bass fishing seminars on earth. They were sponsored by B.A.S.S. and were called Bassmaster University and later, Bass Fishing Techniques. These seminars were well attended locally at the Harrisburg Area Community College by many local anglers, both recreational and tournament.

I used to attend these seminars with my good buddy, Mike Burton. We would often take a youth bass club member with us. I can remember Thomas Banzhof attending several seminars as a high school student. Mike, Thomas, and I even sat one lunchtime and ate with Bassmaster Classic Champ Woo Daves (Chicago, Il, 2000) and, now retired and Bassmaster Classic Champ (Baltimore, Md., 1991), Ken Cook. Folks, it doesn't get much better than that for a die-hard bass angler!

These seminars would be held on both Saturday and Sunday of a given weekend during the "off season" for all professional anglers. Specific Professional B.A.S.S. anglers would present topics of interest at these seminars throughout the nation and boy, did we learn a ton of information from them.

I can even remember Mike Iaconelli attending as a young and budding bass angler from New Jersey! Yep, Mike "Ike" was just "one of the guys" at these seminars and man, he must have soaked in every last drop of information shared by the Pros. Look at where he is today!

Our Lancaster Junior Hawg Hunters bass fishing club had befriended bass pro Pete Gluszek a number of years ago when Adam Caldwell wrote to Ranger Bass Boats while in eighth grade looking for a bass professional willing to spend time with him on "Career Day". Ranger Bass Boats hooked Adam up with Pete Gluszek, a local Ranger Boats-sponsored professional angler from New Jersey.

Pete took Adam along with him on a day of pre-fishing for a tournament on the Potomac River out of Smallwood State Park, Maryland. Pete later visited our junior bass club on several occasions to meet and teach our young anglers the art of bass angling, including my own son... Thanks, Pete!

Well, as time past, B.A.S.S. was bought out by ESPN and the B.A.S.S. Fishing Techniques went away until one day recently Mike "Ike" and Pete Gluszek decided to bring it all back.

The Bass University

On February 18-19, 2012, The Bass University will have a seminar right here in Oaks, Pennsylvania. Check out the information on their web site listed above.

Be aware that I am in no way affiliated in any way with this program. However, I do support the purpose of the program and the effort that Pete and Mike have put into bringing instruction back to us, the anglers.

If you have attended any of these seminars, please let me know in the "Comment" section of my blog. I'd like to hear your impressions of the seminars you were able to hear.

Take Care and Be Safe!
