Shawn Houck - Husband, Father, Son, and Brother-In-Law (RIP - 5/08/11)

Hello Folks,

My wife's youngest sister lives in New Mexico (Deming) with her family. They moved there two years ago to be with her husband's stepparents and his father.

Three years ago, Shawn had a heart attack at the young age of 40. He lost his mother when she was 40 yr. old due to the same thing. Approximately six months later, he had a mild stroke which left him disabled.

It was after these two life-altering health events that they decided to move to where his family was, Deming, NM. At the time, he and Dore had two children, a young three year old son and a one and a half year old daughter.

I can remember the day that they moved. Julie and I picked them up at their apartment in Mt. Joy, Pa. and drove them and their possessions to the small town's railroad station. They were heading to Philadelphia to catch a flight to New Mexico.

That was the last time my wife and I saw Shawn, her sister, and the children. In a year's time, they had another son. My wife did communicate with her sister off and on by cell phone. Last night, we finally connected with them through Skype.

Yesterday was Shawn and Dore's youngest son's first birthday. Dore had the two youngest children with her visiting the step-grandparents. The oldest son was at home with his daddy.

When Dore returned home, her oldest son came to her and said, "Daddy's having trouble breathing." She rushed into the home to find him laying still on the floor. Shawn had died on their baby's first birthday and Mother's Day.

What a shame!

Our hearts goes out to Dore Jean and our two nephews and niece.

Please, if you find it in your heart, keep them in you thoughts and prayers over the next few days as they face life alone without daddy. :(

Take Care and Be Safe!
Dad

p.s. I had an MRI today with contrast... Boy, did my shoulders and back hurt throughout the entire MRI

I'll try to be back on the water real soon and back here with a blog entry... Maybe sometime in the next couple of days.
