Be Respectful To Waterfowl Hunters

Hello Folks,

I have been a duck hunter in past years and I know that Pennsylvania is now into the first week of the 2010-2011 Duck Season. These hunters have from October 9 - October 16, 2010 to do their best at taking 6 ducks/day in the South Zone and from October 9 - October 23, 2010 in the North Zone of Pennsylvania.

The North Zone resumes duck season on November 11, 2010 through January 5, 2011. The South Zone comes back in from November 17, 2010 through January 17, 2011.

We must be aware that we are now "sharing" the waters with not only fellow anglers, but also duck hunters. Keep a sharp eye out for duck decoys situated in and around grassy islands and larger islands. Some duck hunters will even build blinds out in the rivers and lakes isolated from any land mass.

I try not to do much fishing during this shorter first week.

A note to all duck hunters... Please dress warm and remember that 57 degree water can and will cause hypothermia rather quickly.

If you see a boat approaching and seemingly unaware of your position, try a short blast or two on your duck call. This may grab the angler's attention and hopefully he will heed the warning and move off, away, and past your blind without effecting your hunt.

Good luck to all fellow waterfowl hunters and have a successful and safe duck season!
