Change of Plans 07/08/10

hello Folks,

I met up with Dell this morning at 5:45 a.m. in hopes of fishing Lake Aldred once again. But, lo and behold, this is the message I found on the Safe Harbor website before leaving home. It was buried in their long daily messages along the left side of the index page...

Attention: Holtwood’s Lake Aldred drawdown is scheduled for Today July 8 2010. During this drawdown, Lake Aldred will be regulated between elevations 163.0’ and 164.5’ for the majority of the day.

Okay, then... Change of Plans.

We'll go fish the Conowingo Pond for the first time this year in this oppressive heat wave...Bad decision!

We launched from Muddy Creek Access (PFBC) and ran up river past the Muddy Run pumping station. When we got to the our spot, there were bass and catties just busting surface everywhere... Alrighty now! :o

Well, we threw everything but the kitchen sink at them without a single taker. It seemed like everywhere I moved, I marked huge schools of shad and the bass were busting through them. The bass were liking it a little too much and refused any of our offerings.

We eventually got two really stupid bass to take a lipless crank and a tube. That was the extent of our catch from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Water temp was 79.6 degrees and 85 surface temp. Very close to my reading at Lake Aldred yesterday. The bird activity was non-existent except for a Great Blue Heron passing overhead a couple of times. Sad.

We saw three other boats anchored and fishing for catfish. I think had we had worms and live bait hooks, we would have had a field day on the channel catties. :)
