Improvement of PPL Pequea Boat Ramp and Pequea Creek Dredging

Hello Folks,

As mentioned in an earlier blog entry, the Pequea Boat Launch has once again been closed during prime walleye and water foul hunting season. I took a short trip to the launch site with my wife and son, Zach, to see what progress has been made over the past month and this is what I found...

A lot of piping has been laid and it appears that the dredging soil from the Pequea Creek has been sent uphill to a pit that once was the site of a home. I believe that the pit may have been the basement area of the leveled home.

According to the permit submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Balitimore District by PPL Holtwood, LLC, this dredged material will be drained and then hauled to Ash Basin Number 2 (?).

It is all listed under the following document. If you are interested in this project, it is all listed under the following document:

Pequea Boat Ramp Project

"In addition to the above previously authorized work, the following additional work is
proposed and is being advertised for comment through this Public Notice:

To hydraulically and/or mechanically dredge approximately 73,000 square feet of sediment from
the confluence of Pequea Creek and the Susquehanna River. Approximately 3,670 cubic yards
of sediment will be removed from Pequea Creek and approximately 2,310 cubic yards of
sediment will be removed from the Susquehanna River. The accumulated sediments will be
dredged and conveyed through a watertight pipeline to a confined dewatering area. The
dewatering area shall be constructed with a control weir to decant the clarified water to the
Pequea Creek through an 18-inch watertight pipeline. After the sediment has been dewatered, the
dredged material will be trucked to the existing Holtwood Dam dredged disposal area located at
Ash Basin Number 2."

The project is suspected to last until October 31, 2012.

Please be aware that this site is listed as "No Trespassing". Therefore, all pictures were taken from the roadway and Pequea Bridge by the dredging site.

I hope that this gives my blog visitors an idea of what is currently taking place at the PPL Pequea Boat Launch and the projected time frame until the work is completed.

It is not only my goal to keep all blog visitors informed of fishing conditions at various sites along the Susquehanna River, but to also inform them of all necessary work and conditions for improvement to launches in and around my neck of the woods!

Take Care and Be Safe!
